Easy Air-Fryer Mince Pies to make ahead for Festive Feasting
I love using my air-fryer for cooking, as well as baking. And, these Easy Air-Fryer Mince Pies are a great addition to my list of air-fryer recipes.
Using my late mum’s recipe for Traditional Mince Pies, as well as my homemade Boozy Fat-Free Mincemeat, they baked to perfection in my Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer.
They are free-form mince pies, so they need a bit of a chill in the fridge (or even in the freezer) before baking, but you can also use tinfoil pie cases if you want a deeper pie.
I’ve used small tinfoil pie cases, as well as baking them free-form as shown in the photos – both ways work well, as long as they are chilled before baking.
You can freeze them before or after baking, which cuts back in precious time when the busy festive season is upon us, which is always a plus.
I’ve shared a recipe for homemade shortcrust pastry in the recipe card, however, good shop-bought ready-made pastry works well too.
I’ve not tried puff-pastry, but that’s on my list to try out soon, and I’ll let you know how it works out when baked in the air-fryer.
These mince pies are vegetarian, but you can make them vegan by omitting the egg for the glaze, and using a plant-based milk instead.
I’ve made these several times now., and they are amazing when served warm, with a snowy dusting of icing sugar and a great big dollop of cream on the side!
They will also be fabulous when served warm with brandy or rum butter – or even with thick, creamy custard or white brandy sauce.
I hope you love this new air-fryer recipe for Easy Air-Fryer Mince Pies as much as we do, and don’t forget that air-fryers do differ a lot.
So, it might be best to read the manual before baking, especially with regard to temperature settings.

- N.B. Quantities of pastry are expressed as quantity of flour used, e.g. 225 g (8oz) Shortcrust Pastry is the amount of pastry made using 225 g (8oz) flour and not the total of ingredients. The weight of the fats used should total half the weight of the flour.

Ingredients
- Mincemeat (about 300g)
- Beaten egg or milk to glaze
- Icing sugar or caster sugar
- Pastry:
- 225 g (8oz) Plain Flour
- pinch of salt
- 50 g (2oz) white vegetable fat (such as Trex)
- 50 g (2oz) butter (or margarine)
- cold water to mix, about 30 ml (approx. 2 tbsp.)
- 25 g (1oz) caster sugar if sweet pastry is required
Instructions
- Pastry: Mix flour and salt in basin, rub in fat. Using a knife to cut and stir, mix with cold water to form a stiff dough. Turn dough on to a floured surface and knead lightly. Roll out and use as required.
- Line the basket if using a large multi-cooker style air-fryer with baking paper - I didn't use any paper in my Ninja Dual Zone Air-Fryer.
- Roll out pastry very thinly, cut out 8 to 10 small rounds and 8 to 10 arger rounds, re-rolling the trimmings as required.
- Place a tablespoon of mincemeat in the middle of each larger pastry round. Damp the edges and cover with the small rounds, sealing well, by either crimping with your fingers or with a fork.
- Brush with the beaten egg or milk. Chill them for at least 30 minutes in the fridge or in the freezer for 15 minutes. Pre-heat your air-fryer to 180C 5 miutes before the end of chilling them.
- Remove them from the fridge or freezer and place 4 to 5 in each drawer, if using a two drawer air-fryer, or place them in a single layer in a large air-fryer basket.
- Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the pastry is crisp. Remove them and place them on a wire cooling rack for 5 minutes.
- Dust with icing sugar and serve.
