A city of history, culture, and plenty of fun, Dublin is a European capital which is packed with things to do. Whether you are visiting the historical sites or simply kicking back in a pub and singing classic Irish songs, it takes at least a few days to appreciate everything that this city has to offer. To give you some inspiration to visit here, we’re going to run through some of the top tourist attractions here and now.
Trinity College
The oldest university in Ireland stands in the heart of the city and is one of the most beautiful parts of Dublin. The campus is green and peaceful, and you get the feeling like you have stepped back in time as so many of the buildings and much of the character has been well-preserved. The 18th-century Long Room is home to 200,000 of the university’s oldest books and provides an atmospheric setting.
Guinness Storehouse
No trip to Ireland would be complete without a pint or two of the black stuff. And what better place to enjoy it than its home in the Guinness Storehouse. As you work your way through the top tourist attraction in Dublin, you will get to see how the drink is prepared, its history and marketing campaigns, and you can even pour your own. The tour will end at the top of the building where you can enjoy some beautiful views over the city.
Temple Bar
The centre of Dublin’s nightlife is Temple Bar, where you will find a host of world-famous pubs and eateries. Some may argue that you won’t find many locals around here, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy plenty of fun as live bands play traditional music and the crowds bust out their best dance moves.
Phoenix Park
A beautiful area of green space in the heart of the city centre, Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed park area in Europe at over 1,750 acres. Here, you will find hundreds of deer roaming around, important buildings including Áras an Uachtaráin, the home of the country’s President, and Dublin Zoo. Beyond all this, you can simply relax, enjoy some sports, or maybe just a little people-watching.
The National Gallery of Ireland
If you are looking to take in some culture during your time in Ireland, the place to do it is the National Gallery of Ireland, where you can find a collection of local artwork, as well as some great pieces from throughout Europe. Pieces date all the way back from the Middle Ages and take you right the way through to contemporary classics.
Dublin is certainly one of Europe’s must-visit capitals and these are just some of the reasons why this is such a special city.
Ron says
Having never traveled to Ireland, this only moves it up in my “must travel to” list. Dublin looks great and oh yes, a few pub visits would be on the itinerary. The Long Room at Trinity University is amazing, my wife could spend years in there. Thanks for a great inspiration to visit Ireland and Dublin.
